We left early for Carcassonne and visited the amazing fortified city. We had a nice coffee here before heading to Montpellier. By the time we arrived it was 38 degrees! So hot! We parked and caught the tram into the city – well we attempted to - obstacle number 1 we went in the wrong direction, however only got 2 stops along before realizing it and changing directions. Obstacle number 2 we got half way in and had to catch a replacement bus – just like London! And guess what – no air con! By the time we arrived in the city centre we where so hot we decided to catch a little train that gave a guided tour of the city – heaps of fun. We had no accommodation booked for tonight so decided to drive on to Nimes - a city with a more Spanish influence than Roman - despite Les Arenes the Roman amphitheatre in the centre. It was built in AD 100 and seats 24 000! We finally found a hotel at 8pm totally exhausted. However, we had one so again we had a nice meal out just up from the amphitheatre.
