Alcatraz from the boat
We started the day at a diner that looked out over the water and had a MASSIVE breakfast to start the day. We walked down and took the 10am boat to Alcatraz where we spent the next few hours walking around the island. Watching a video introduction and doing a guided tour of the cellblock. We learn’t all about the daily life, routine, famous people who were prisoned – Al Capone and the ‘bird man’. Of the 39 escape attempts they say that no one made it, however, there are 3 people that dug out of the back of their cells, went up the utility shaft to the roof and never to be seen again so who knows! We came back and had a nice clam chowder again in the sunshine, and wandered along the waterfront again. The weather has been absolutely amazing for us. We enjoyed the happy hour in the hotel (again) before heading out at 6pm for our last bus tour - the night one - it went for 90 minutes.
