Day 7: Friday 2nd September

One porter and his backpack! Lunch/Dinner tent - pretty impressive! Unpacking in the tent Arrival at the campsite Passport contrl Hiking! The start of the trail! We started the trail at Piskacuchu, where we went through the first checkpoint and got our passports checked and stamped! In our daypacks we where equipped with rain jackets, fleece, sun hat and lotion and insect repellent! It was not long before we where in shorts and t-shirt with a sun hat on! We hiked from 2650m to 3,000 meters above sea level on the first day to Wayllabamba where we had lunch. By the time we arrived, the porter had already arrived and set up a lunch tent with a table laid with cloth, cutlery and chairs around! We had a nice bowl of warm water set up to wash our hands and face. We had soup and trout for lunch – really nice. We had an afternoon Siesta for 40 min before heading off hiking again. We passed our next checkpoint and arrived at our campsite to find that the porters – who had left after us – had overtaken us with their 20kgs packs and had gone on to set up the dinner tent with the same table etc and bowl of water. And had set up our sleeping tents, put in our mattresses and our duffel bags – amazing! We washed in the bowl of warm water we where given as no shower and went to ‘happy hour’ where we had tea/hot chocolate, crackers and popcorn followed by dinner at 7.30pm. We again had a nice bowl of soup for dinner, followed by chicken and cake (josh had cake) for dessert. Bed early at 8.30pm as we where exhausted and had to get up at 5am!
