Dubai 15th March

We flew through the night and arrived at the hotel at 7am - we were exhausted. But only limited time and had to see the sights so we had breakfast at the hotel and went to Jumeriah Moseque for a tour at 10am. The photos are of the mosque, the tour guide and me in the gear, as you have to cover your ankles and head to go on. Other people had dressed appropriatly but i didn't know so they lent me the clothes - it was very exciting - i think i look great! This is the only mosque in Dubai that non-muslims are allowed to go around. The call for prayer is heard 5 times a day here and then people pray at home or where they are. It doesn't stop things happening though, if people are busy at work they dont' stop and pray - which is apprantly ok. The gear they wear comes from the Bedouin arabs, which is where the emiratie muslims origniate from. Most of clothes is about keeping the sand out. The tie ontop of the guys head was used to tie camels up! The women don't have to wear the black stuff if they don't want to, but they do have to cover thier heads - its polite as hair is only for showing to family. So as you walk around some women are all in black, some have face covers, some don't. It's really fascinating. The black things come in all different materials and with different designs as do the mens attire - they even do Armani! Totally amazing. The tour guide in the picutre is washing - this has to occur before prayer - at least once a day! All that information and more consisted of our morning. Absoulty fascinating and not like you see on TV with some other muslim countries - apparently they are all different and UAE is more liberal.
