Dubai 17th March Part 3: Desert Safari

The very first picture is one we got that afternoon of the Emirates towers.
This afternoon and evening we went on a Desert Safari. We were picked up from the hotel at 3pm with 2 other couples in a land rover. We drove out into the desert, then they took the land rovers over the dunes for "dune bashing". He deflated the tyres a little so it would be safer on the sand then he dove us up and down the dunes, sideways. At one point a couple of the jeeps got stuck ontop of a dune and another car had to come and tow us off backwards. You couldn't see where he was going, he would climb up this dune then you would come straight down the other side. The ride was for a couple of hours and we stopped at different places for photos. We were in a convoy of 5 cars. Then they took us to a bedouin campsite they had set up with all sorts of different activites. Josh dressed up like an arab - he is looking to stars - just like the wise men! I had my hand painted with henna, although i smudged the design with my watch, so
the top doesn't look so good! The picture is of the hena when it's wet, it dries and then you bush it off and it leaves an orange stain on your hand. We smoked the hubbly bubbly pipe, josh quite enjoyed it, it is flavoured smoke, this one was blackcurrent. Look at the smoke Josh is blowing out in one of the photos! We also went for a camel ride, it was only 'round the block' but definalty good fun! You have to be careful when those things stand up, if you're not holding on you fall off, then put thier back legs up first then the front ones, and those things are long, so it's rather like a rollar coaster ride for a while. Camels can go 1 month without water and food! That's why they use them and then when they do drink they drink 200 litres of water!
Then we had a traditional bbq meal - it was nice, most of the stuff we had before at the other places we ate. Then we had a belly dancer at night time. Pretty cool - she got people up to dance with her - i tried, i don't think i did a very good job though! Never mind, the night was good fun, then we drove back, off road for 5km then back on the highway. We got home at 10pm! A long and very fun day.
